Surf Lessons @ GTown

What better way to keep fit and have fun at the same time, than to learn how to surf in Cork.

At Garrettstown Surf School, GTown for short, we are Irish Surfing approved surf school and all our instructors are trained Beach Lifeguards and experienced surfers, who are only to willing to pass on this experience to you.

Our surf lessons cater for all ages/genders and any group size.

Adult surf lessons are 2 hrs in duration and take place at Garrettstown beach, the closest surfing beach to Kinsale (10 minute drive) and Cork City (40 minutes approx).

During the lesson, after a quick introduction,we spend 15 minutes on the beach, giving instruction and a Beach safety talk.

The Beach Instruction is broken into stages :

  • Prone surfing (body position lying on the board) and paddling techniques (to make it easier to catch waves) and how to anticipate which waves are best to go for.
  • Your Pop Up, ie,to get up on your feet,to stand on board. Your Stance and Foot placement is analysed to ensure you stay standing for longer, and feel that thrill of catching your first wave.
  • Lesson participants practice what was demonstrated by the instructor, then its into the water we go.

At GTown we encourage everyone to learn to swim. It's never too late.

All lessons take place in waist depth water.

Once in the water, instruction is continuous, where participants replicate in the water what they have practiced on the beach.Tips to improve your technique etc. are given as your instructor give individual advice.

Wetsuits/Boots are included in the lesson price.Gloves and hoods are supplied,if required.

With wetsuit technology always improving, you'll feel nice and comfortable in your wetsuit.

Booking a lesson can be done at +353(0)87 8768549 or info@surfgtown.com.

Lessons times vary as we have to assess tides and conditions on the day. Junior lessons follow the same format and are 1.5 hrs in duration.

Arrive 10 minutes before lesson to get changed into wetsuit.
