Our Safety Policy

Our Safety Policy

Since our surf school opened in 2004 we have enjoyed a flawless safety record. This is brought about by our many years of experience in the Outdoor Industry. Both Jon & Alayne have worked & managed in a number of Irelands best Adventure Centres. The combination of these experiences have helped us draft a solid working practice that offers all Gtown Surf School customers a safe surfing experience that is both challenging, rewarding & fun.

We are also recognised by the Irish Surfing Association as an approved Surf School. This ensures we adhere to strict operating guidelines that are considered best practice within the industry. This is also backed up by a reputable Insurance policy that is inspected annually by the ISA.

Safe Surfing with Gtown

From time to time we get people who are really keen to learn to surf but who maybe a little fearful of the water. We are expert in handling these situations and will offer both understanding and leadership in helping you gain confidence in the water.

Here are some general guidelines you should be aware of when making a booking with us:

  • We only run surf lessons / activity in suitable safe surfing conditions. Conditions are assessed by a qualified Beach Lifeguard / Surf Instructor.
  • If conditions are unsafe on the day we endeavour to give at least two hours notice should we need to cancel / postpone a booking.
  • If, during a surf lesson, conditions deteriorate, we reserve the right to stop the session to preserve our customers safety & wellbeing.
  • In the case of the surf conditions being flat we will do our best to keep you posted on conditions and find a suitable date to re-schedule the lesson.

First aid equipment and trained staff are onsite whilst any surf activity is taking place.

Finally, surfing is an adventure sport. It's speed, energy & ethos is embedded in its roots. Surfing has inherent risks and these are preventable against with best practice and skill. We strive to avoid all possible unnecessary risk through constant improvement of our safety.
